Will Clausen has released over a dozen solo and band albums with a variety of groups, including the Naked Picasso's and a French group called Sky of Change. He's played and written with many notables including members of Survivor and Redbone, and he's a permanent lifetime guest of San Diego's Comic-Con International.
"I started my professional art career at the Coast Chronicle in downtown San Diego as a political cartoonist in the early 70s. This led to meeting Comic-Con founder Shel Dorf. I joined the committee and soon I was assisting Shel on the Steve Canyon comic [strip]. He introduced me to [local publisher] Steve Schanes and [comic creator] Jack Kirby. Steve let me create some books for his company Blackthorne while Jack and Brad Anderson's son Craig got me into Marvel to work on the Silver Surfer Annual. I moved to L.A. where I assisted Frank Brunner and also got the gig for the first appearance of Leprechaun. I eventually created my own comic book line Liquid Star and moved into film and video design and direction." He relocated back to San Diego in 2014.
The video for his early 2021 single "The Sea" resulted from taking classes that required him to shoot film footage of San Diego beaches. "I just graduated motion graphics/video production. I took the class because digital design was full and I needed to make some videos for my songs. It was filmed in Ocean Beach where all the lovers past have carved their initials in the sand stone. I was reminiscing about carving the now-faded names of a relationship gone to the past and wondering how many couples survived the test of time. I was one of those who carved his name out there about five or six years ago. Our love got washed out to sea, never to return."
