West Coast Iron Works is one of the longest-running bands in San Diego, having formed in the early sixties. The band played a 2008 class reunion at Coronado High, with many long-gone members returning to town to sit in.
Guitarist Bob Demmon went on to join the surf group the Astronauts, who had a 1963 hit with “Baja.” He later taught at Coronado Middle and High Schools. He died in December 2010. As of 2011, guitarist Gary Carter was Dean of the Arts and Humanities Division at Chabot College.
In 2017, the band celebrated its 50th anniversary with a series of local July 4th performances.
