Sun Room was founded in 2020 by Long Beach transplant Luke Asgian, while attending Point Loma Nazarene University. The group includes former San Clemente resident Ashton Minnich on guitar, and two players from Carlsbad, Max Pinamonti on bass and Gibson Anderson on drums. Their music has been heard on the Netflix program Outerbanks.
Their 2023 EP Outta Their Minds was preceded by a single for single “Cadillac.” “It’s short and sweet with unhinged vocals and guitars,” says singer Luke Asgia, “reminiscent of early 60s British Invasion bands. The song is exciting, fast, and intentionally unpolished- especially the unruly outro that seems to go about 200 miles per hour. We were gone on tour almost all of this past year, but we had the summer back home and we wrote and recorded the song in the midst of the chaos; so I guess it’s a love song to San Diego and all the kids down here who mosh at our house shows.” A “Cadillac” video was directed by Kelly Hammond.
A followup single dropped in February 2023, “Kaden’s Van.” According to Asgian, “I dropped outta college last year for the band but I still live down here in San Diego with ten of my friends from school. This song is kinda about summer down here and all that brings; us getting the cops called on us for throwing house shows, my buddy Kaden’s van breaking down, barely scraping up enough cash for rent, etc. It’s chaotic but it’s fun and I think the song turned out the same way.”
In late 2023, the band released a new EP called At Least I Tried, produced with Zac Carper of FIDLAR. December found them on their first tour of Australia.
Summer 2024 saw the release of their EP Can’t Explain, preceded by singles for "Hate It When You Call" and "Get Me Outta New York City." They supported the EP on a U.S. tour with Dayglow. Around the same time, they announced a capsule collection they designed for surf apparel brand Katin.
