Sorry It's Over was formed by Sam Adgate and Louis Petrella, who were bandmates since high school until moving together to Santa Barbara for a few years. Returning to San Diego, they decided to start working on original music together. The duo was soon backed by Sam’s bassist brother Gus Adgate, drummer Freddy Barden, and Freddy’s brother Michael, who used to be in a La Costa Canyon High School band with Sam and Louis called the Borski Boys. They honed their sound in a twelve-by-twelve Encinitas garage.
For their debut singles, they worked with LA’s Godfather of Punk Geza X, producer for Black Flag, Dead Kennedys, the Germs, and “Bitch” by Meredith Brooks.
Their early 2021 single "Is It Cool?" was streamed free on Spotify, where they also sold downloads of previous singles such as "Am I Better?" and "Ghost Inside." A self-titled album was released at the end of October 2021. Even before its release, the band scored over 200,000 plays on Spotify.
In Autumn 2022, a new single called "Handkerchiefs and Handgrenades" quickly racked up around 5000 Spotify plays. "This was the first song I wrote for this project a few years ago and I’m pretty happy to finally get it released," says Louis Petrella. "I remember sitting in my room writing down 'you’re not alone, it’s all okay' when in reality I was literally all alone and everything was definitely not okay. In a nutshell, the song's about just remembering that you’re not alone no matter how much you feel you are and also just the importance of self love." A video was produced for the track ”Dog Daze.”
A new single called “Feel Like It’s the 60s” dropped in June 2023.
