DJ Pnutz moved with her family to the United States at the age of 4, beginning dance lessons and then, at 10, studying percussion. Later expanding beyond the realm of Art of Noise and Madonna to 1970s and 1980s punk and garage, she got her first set of turntables as a high school graduation present.
Driven by 1990s electronic music, hip-hop, and trip-hop, she records with turntables, drums, Roland synthesizers and sequencers, and Ableton. An album called Rackmount was released in 2012. The Good Wife's Guide to Beatmaking was released in 2016.
A collaborative album with Jihad the Roughneck MC was released in December 2020, General Jihad & Prime Minister P-Nutz. According to General Jihad, "I approached my longtime friend DJ PNutz after hearing a few of her great instrumental LPs and asked her if she would like to collaborate. Back in 2008, she had supported the release of my LP The Richard Dastardly Identity and I always appreciated that. I thought she would just let me lace a few of her previously released tracks, but instead by February she handed me ten brand spanking new tracks."
"Over the subsequent months, I wrote and recorded my vocals. At that point, the album was sounding great but we had bare choruses, so I wanted to bring in some scratch hook muscle. I reached out to DJs Sy-Matic and Waxsmith and they delivered the goods big time. The final stage was P mixing mastering and doing the cover art." The album was nominated Best Hip-Hop at the 2021 San Diego Music Awards. It was reissued on vinyl in summer 2021.
Her music has been featured in campaigns for Tech Deck, reviewed in Mixmag, and has spent more than 20 continuous weeks on Canadian College Radio Charts.
A new full-length dropped in March 2022, Semi Live Entertainment, preceded by singles for "Rhodes To Heaven" and "Hotter Than Hades." The album features completely electronically manufactured music played by the one-woman virtual band. "The album was predominantly made using Native Instruments library of plugins and Universal Audios premier effect and mastering capabilities," says Pnutz. "highlighting the best of what future music has to offer by reinventing the past through sonic manipulation of 1s and 0s."
October 2022 saw the release of a new EP called Trick R Beat 2: The Halloween Drum and Bass Remixes, featuring six re-imagined Halloween tracks such as “Gaslit,” “The Final Nightmare,” and “40000 Years of Funk ft. Roughneck Jihad.”
A 20-song album called Music Beds for Different Moods dropped in summer 2023, preceded by a single for “Dance Until You Drop,” which pays tribute to the days of Big Beat.
