The Calder Quartet came together at USC and stayed together through grad school at the Colburn Conservatory and the Juilliard School. After the foursome who founded the Quartet graduated from USC in 2003, they made their home base in Carlsbad.
Founding members are violinists Ben Jacobson and Andrew Bulbrook, cellist Eric Byers, and violist Jonathan Moerschel. The Quartet has a strong connection to the traditional form of string quartet but keep themselves firmly rooted in the present by maintaining relationships with contemporary composers such as Christopher Rouse, Thomas Ades, and Christine Southworth.
They have appeared on the Late Show With David Letterman, the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, the El Rey theater, and New York's Webster Hall.
