Beautiful Beast describes themselves as “a simple band expressing genius in idiotic ways.” Fronted by lead vocalist and songwriter Jake Brewer (formerly of Borracho y Loco), their debut album was initially distributed in early 2016 with no CDs, and no vinyl, but a special download code included in a limited edition comic book.
The short-story comic, Aquavengers, is based loosely on the first single from the album, with a cover drawn by underground comic artist Drew Toonz. The song also has a humorous music video that was produced by local filmmaker Tom Farrell. The album was produced by Cardiff resident and Grammy Award-winning producer (and former Borracho y Loco bassist) Chris Goldsmith (Ben Harper, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Big Head Todd, Karl Denson, etc.).
The album is comprised of twelve original songs, including a revivalist ode to fallen movie-star Jan Michael Vincent, a rock epic about a sci-fi superhero named Jeff Ingram, and a love song to a dog named Jesus Santa Bunny.
